Who knew? Republicans are more likely to watch HGTV, the Weather Channel, and the Food Network than Democrats. At least this is true in Florida, according to a Jan. 2012 New York Times article. Citing data from Scarborough Research, the articles says that 36% of self-identified Floridian Republicans watch the Weather Channel, compared to smaller percentages of individuals affiliated with other political parties. And 20% of Florida’s Republicans have watched HGTV which is less popular among Democratic viewers. Unfortunately, the article does not give percentages for Democratic viewers of these channels.
The fact that these channels rank higher among Republicans than among Democrats explains why the Republican party has chosen to saturate them with ads during the primary season.
